Profile
Dr. Tuhtan completed his engineering doctorate at the Universität Stuttgart, Institute for Modelling Hydraulic and Environmental Systems (IWS) under the supervision of Prof. Silke Wieprecht and Prof. Anton Schleiss (École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne, Switzerland). His dissertation work focused on expanding the use of biophysical models via irreversible thermodynamics to improve aquatic ecosystem studies. Dr. Tuhtan has supervised 7 M.Sc. theses, one B.Sc., and currently supervises one M.Sc. student and one PhD candidate at CfB who has been awarded a Marie Curie scholarship. Since completing his M.Sc., Dr. Tuhtan has worked at SJE Ecohydraulic Engineering in Stuttgart as the head research engineer, specializing in hydrodynamic modelling and the development of measurement and data collection methods for ecohydraulic studies. In 2014 he co-founded the German consortium HyDroneS which specializes in the use of drone-based data collection and image processing for river ecosystems. In 2013 he became an affiliated research scholar at CfB and in 2015 was appointed research associate by the University of California at Davis, Department of Land, Air, and Water Resources.
